Pedretti delivers for RiverDawgs in split with Pearl

Tynan Pedretti's clutch hit and the baserunning ability of the speedy Ryan Xepoleas helped the Southern Oregon RiverDawgs amateur baseball team salvage a split in a matchup of the top teams of the Far West League.

Pedretti's single to left field brought home Xepoleas in a close play at the plate with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and sealed a 6-5 victory in Game 2 on Sunday at Harry & David Field.

The Neptune Beach Pearl (15-4, 7-2 FWL) won the opening game, 8-6.

Xepoleas had come in to pinch run for Vince Ampi, who got the RiverDawgs started by reaching base on a throwing error by Neptune Beach third baseman Bob Cruikshank. He then moved to second base on a wild pitch.

Pedretti's hit to left field brought Xepoleas around to score from second base; however, the throw on the relay was in time at the plate. Xepoleas used a hook slide to avert the tag by Neptune Beach's catcher and touch home plate.

Pedretti went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs. Chris Lewis and Nate Etheridge both added a pair of hits for Southern Oregon.

In the opener, the RiverDawgs (12-5, 8-3 FWL) tallied five runs in the first inning, but Neptune Beach notched four runs in both the third and eighth innings for a comeback victory.

Brent Gillespie went 3-for-4, while Etheridge, Chris Streeter and Clint Brill all had two hits.
