Medford's Wu struggles at Junior Worlds

LA JOLLA, Calif. — Dylan Wu had a difficult opening round at the Callaway Junior Worlds on Tuesday.

The Medford 15-year-old shot a 10-over-par 82 at Torrey Pines' South Course to finish the day tied for 70th place out of more than 200 players.

Wu had seven bogeys and two double bogeys against one birdie.

Play was delayed in the morning by fog, necessitating shotgun starts for the morning and afternoon flights.

Beau Hossler of Mission Viejo, Calif., leads with a 68.

CENTRAL POINT 15-20, CC/RR/STM 0-0 — The Area 4-leading Central Point Comets collected 37 hits in a pair of five-inning victories at St. Mary's High and stretched their winning streak to 22 games.

Paul Turner had a big doubleheader against Cascade Christian/Rogue River/St. Mary's. Turner paced the Comets (25-4, 23-2 Area 4) with six hits, seven RBIs and three runs scored. Turner belted a two-run homer in the Comets' 11-run second inning of the nightcap.

Central Point's Tanner Reyerson also had a productive twin bill with five hits, five runs and two RBIs.

In the opener, Tyler Aplin, Ty Fox, Taylor Tibbets and Anthony Martin had two hits each. Tibbets smacked his second home run of the season with a three-run shot in the third inning.

In the second game, Zach Lathrop had three hits. Lathrop also pitched a two-hit shutout in the first game, facing just one batter over the minimum.
