Central Point brother, sister claim titles
Central Point’s Rayanne and Elijah Bayne celebrated National Siblings Day on Sunday by pulling off a rare sister and brother sweep at the Reno Worlds youth wrestling championships in Nevada.
In a competition that featured more than 3,000 youths, Rayanne Bayne managed to secure the girls 14-and-under title in the 73-pound division while Elijah Bayne won the boys 8-and-under title at 58 pounds.
Rayanne Bayne, who is an 11-year-old sixth-grader at Scenic Middle School, used a 21-second pin and a 2-0 decision to reach her championship final, where she earned a 5-3 overtime decision over Nevada’s Sterling Dias. Her division had eight wrestlers in it.
Elijah Bayne, who is a 9-year-old third-grader at Jewett Elementary, made his way to the finals with four first-round pins and a 12-0 major decision in the semifinals. He scored a 12-3 major decision over California’s Nikade Zinkin to win the 35-person division.
