Ashland Pilots sweep Colts
The Ashland Pilots American Legion A baseball team topped South Medford, 9-8 and 10-0, during Area 4 action at South Medford High on Monday.
Ashland starting pitcher Caleb Bell was outstanding at the mound and the plate to guide the Pilots’ shutout in Game 2.
Bell tossed a four-hit shutout through five innings, allowing two walks and striking out eight. Bell also helped his own cause, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs.
Shae Scott and Kellar Edwards each had two hits and a pair of runs scored for the Pilots.
In the opener, South Medford’s comeback fell shy. The Pilots went ahead 9-3 after scoring seven runs in the top of the fourth inning but the Colts tallied three runs in the seventh inning to trim Ashland’s lead to 9-8.
Jacob Melton went 2-for-3 for the Colts.
Evan McLennan drove in three runs, including a two-run double during the Pilots’ seven-run frame.

CENTRAL POINT 3-2, NORTH MEDFORD 2-6: At Central Point, the Central Point Comets and North Medford Mavericks split the American Legion A Area 4 doubleheader.
In the opener, Larson Kindreich threw a five-hitter with 13 strikeouts and no walks and Sebasten Boivin went 2-for-2 for the Comets (13-2, 6-2 Area 4). Brandon King and Kyle Reece finished 2-for-3 for the Mavericks.
In Game 2, Zack Collins pitched a five-hitter with five strikeouts and two walks for North Medford. Boivin was 2-for-3.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 12U TAKES STATE: At Albany, Katelyn Willard threw two no-hitters for Cascade Christian in the 12U C state tournament, including one in an 11-0 championship victory over the Portland Rainbows.
Willard, whose other no-hitter was against the Rainbows in the second game of the tournament, needed just five innings to strike out 11 batters.
In the 12-team tournament, Sophie Woodburn hit a home run, drove in seven runs and scored nine times while Rebecca Clark drove in eight for Cascade Christian, which finished the tournament 4-1.
