Berman, Mustangs split with Titans

EUGENE — Josh Berman tossed a gem for the Medford Mustangs American Legion AAA squad on Monday to avenge a loss in the opener of the Area 4 doubleheader.

Berman improved to 3-0 as he went the distance to throw a two-hitter and sew up a 4-1 victory over the host Willamette Valley Titans.

The Titans claimed Game 1, 8-5.

Berman allowed one earned run, walked three and struck out seven. The first hit he allowed was with through 3 ⅔ innings.

Nick Sanderson drove in Tate Cowden twice with singles in both the first and fifth innings.

In the opener, the Mustangs’ Berry Hunt went 3-for-3 with two runs scored.

Berman went 2-for-4 with a two-run double in the fifth inning for the Mustangs (21-13, 6-4 Area 4).

American Legion A

CENTRAL POINT 3-11, ASHLAND 10-0: At Ashland, Larson Kindreich fired a two-hit shutout to help Central Point salvage a split with Ashland in an Area 4 doubleheader at North Mountain Park.

Kindreich walked just two and fanned 10. He allowed a leadoff single in the fourth inning and in the sixth, both to the Pilots’ Jesse Carroll.

Both Jace Godley and Sebasten Boivin went 3-for-4 for the Comets (19-5, 7-3 Area 4). Godley drove in three and scored three times with Boivin also racking up three RBIs.

In the opener, Carroll collected three hits, scored three times and drove in three for the Pilots (13-6, 6-6).

Curtis Jones had a two-run double during Ashland’s big inning while starting pitcher Peyton Fuller struck out nine.

GWL Baseball

MEDFORD 8, SACRAMENTO 4: Medford Rogues outfielder Brock Pradere set the franchise record for stolen bases in one season during Great West League action at Harry & David Field.

Pradere recorded three stolen bases to drive up his total to 15 this year. Two of the Western Oregon University product's swipes were to home base.

Cam Russ went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Johnny DeLaCruz 3-for-5 for Medford (21-11), which will go for the series sweep against Sacramento (4-20) tonight.
