Rogues win first game of championship series

CHICO, Calif. — The Medford Rogues are one win away from the crown.

Medford beat Chico 12-4 in Game 1 of their best-of-three Great West League championship series Friday.

The series now shifts to Medford, with Game 2 at 6:35 tonight at Harry & David Field and, if necessary, Game 3 at the same time and place Sunday.

Jayden Hanna scored the first run of the game off a Chico error in the first inning and it was on from there.

Hanna and Cam Russ hit RBI singles in the second, and Derron Davis’ run-scoring hit made it 5-0 in the third for Medford (41-17).

The Rogues scored four more runs in the ninth and tallied 14 hits.

Hanna went 3 for 6 with four RBIs and two runs, Russ was 2 for 5 with two RBIs, Davis went 2 for 5 with two runs, and Robby Teel was 2 for 6 against the Heat (34-24).
