SOSA team falls in Cup semifinals

A Southern Oregon Soccer Academy team made up of players from four area high schools advanced to the semifinals in state tournament play last weekend.

The SOSA boys U-16 team reached the semis in the OYSA Portland Timbers-Thorns Presidents Cup in Tualatin, defeating the eventual tournament champion before losing.

SOSA fell to Cascade Rush of Bend in the semifinals after beating teams from Portland, Beaverton and Hermiston in bracket play and another from Portland in the quarterfinals.

Hermiston, however, advanced as a wild-card, won the 17-team tournament in a shootout with the Bend squad and moves on to regionals in Salt Lake City.

SOSA, associated with Medford United Futbol Club, is made up of players from South Medford, North Medford, Ashland and Phoenix.
