Rogues hold off Gold Sox, earn sweep

MARYSVILLE, Calif. — The Medford Rogues held off the Marysville Gold Sox, 13-9, to earn the Great West League series sweep on Wednesday.

The Rogues led 13-3 before the Gold Sox scored five seventh-inning runs to make things interesting.

Eric Yang was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and Josh Berman 2-for-3 with a home run for Medford (15-6).

Jake Hellweg went 2-for-2, Johnny DeLaCruz 2-for-4 with four RBIs and Braden Stutzman 2-for-6 against the Gold Sox (6-14).

The Rogues begin a three-game series at Chico tonight.

MEDFORD MUSTANGS 7, CHICO NUTS 6: At Reno, Nev., Tate Cowden belted a game-tying solo home run to lead off the seventh inning and Nick Sanderson added a clutch two-run double to lead Medford on Day 2 of the Josh Anderson Memorial Tournament at Peccole Park.

Cowden finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Sanderson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Mustangs (11-4), who moved to 1-1 in tournament pool play. Cole Carder was 2-for-4 with one RBI and Kasey Buchanan 2-for-3.

Trailing 5-4 in the top of the seventh, Cowden homered and then James Turnbull singled and Jacob Melton reached on an error to set the table for Sanderson.

NORTH MEDFORD 7, NORTH SALEM 4: At Eugene, Jon Gassman was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Brady Buchanan had a two-run double to finish with three RBIs for North Medford at the Best of the West Tournament.

Tristan Drewien and Ryan Sandoval were both 2-for-4 for the Mavericks (7-3), who play Sheldon at 5:30 tonight.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 3-2, NORTH COOS 2-14: At Coos Bay, Cascade Christian split with North Coos.

In the opener, Jadon Rullamas was 2-for-4 with the go-ahead RBI single and Jack West 2-for-4 for Cascade Christian (4-4).

Gunnar Thompson hit a two-run home run in the second game against North Coos.

NORTH JACKSON 8-6, ASHLAND 3-0: At Ashland, Andrew Schreiner and Braxton Barnes combined for a two-hit shutout in Game 2 as North Jackson of Eagle Point completed a sweep with a victory in the nightcap of an Area 4 doubleheader.

Schreiner held Ashland to two hits in 5 2/3 innings before giving way to Barnes, who shut down the Pilots the rest of the way.

North Jackson took advantage of a variety of Ashland miscues to take the opener.

The losses dropped the Pilots to 0-4 on the season. They play a doubleheader at Phoenix on Friday.

Schreiner struck out six and walked eight, while Barnes had one strikeout.

The Pilots started Dane Reynolds on the mound and he surrendered four runs, three earned, on six hits before being replaced in the seventh by Rowan Amann.

Nick Buccino and Lawson Anderson each had a hit for the Pilots, who left eight runners stranded.

In the opener, North Jackson scored three runs on two singles, a hit batsman and a walk to seize an early 4-1 lead. The visitors then scored two in the third and two in the fourth to pull away.

Leadoff hitter Kolbi Blevins had two hits to lead North Jackson.
