Rogues' Wright pitches perfect game

LINCOLN, Calif. — Scotty Wright achieved perfection on Saturday night.

The Medford pitcher threw a perfect game with 14 strikeouts in his first career start as the Rogues blanked the Lincoln Potters, 5-0, in the second of two seven-inning games.

The 6-foot-2 Wright, who is a native of Vero Beach, Florida, improved to 2-1 with the Great West League victory, which lasted 2 hours, 1 minute.

Wright completed his junior season at Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, Colorado, before playing for first-place Medford (38-15).

For the NCAA Division II Cougars this past year, Wright was 0-1 in eight appearances with three saves. He transferred from the University of North Florida.

Eric Yang went 2-for-4 with a run scored and Jake Hellweg and Jayden Hanna added RBIs for the Rogues, who finished with five hits.

Wright struck out the side in the seventh to seal the perfect outing.

Second-place Lincoln (33-20) committed three errors.

In the opener, Medford was held to two hits (Johnny DeLaCruz and Connor Lowrie had them).

Jamie Flynn allowed five hits, three earned runs and two walks with six strikeouts in five innings.

The Rogues, who have won eight straight, will go for the series sweep at 6:05 tonight.

American Legion A

NORTH WILLAMETTE VALLEY 9, SOUTH MEDFORD 8: At Aurora, South Medford came up just shy in its bid to advance to the championship round, losing when North Willamette Valley scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie it, then tallied the game-winner in the eighth at North Marion High.

South Medford led 8-5 entering the seventh.

The loss ended the Colts season. They had a 22-7-1 record.

Jaalen Owens drove in four runs for South Medford, Jack Thompson had two hits and three RBIs and Clint Campbell collected two hits.
