Pickles deal Rogues loss
PORTLAND — The Medford Rogues dropped their third straight, falling 3-1 to the Portland Pickles during Great West League action on Friday.
Johnny DeLaCruz was 2-for-4 and Clay Valenzuela-Reece had an RBI sacrifice fly for Medford (39-20), which will wrap up the regular season at Portland (31-28) today. The teams will square off again to open the GWL playoffs at 5:05 p.m. Sunday in Portland. The best-of-three playoff series will return to Medford on Tuesday.
Starter Scotty Wright, who pitched a perfect game last week, owned a no-hit shutout with five strikeouts in two innings before being relieved.

18A USA FASTPITCH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS: At Salem, after a bracket-opening loss Thursday to Clearwater, Florida, the 18U Black Tornado followed with a 14-1, five-inning win over Showtime Softball of Washington later that same day and opened Friday’s play with a 12-0, five-inning win over the Breeze at Wallace Marine Park.
Chelby Smalley was 3-for-4 with one run and three RBIs, Rylan Austin 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs and Sydney Beck added two RBIs to pace the local girls against Showtime.
Danyelle Milam drove in two runs against Breeze and the Black Tornado got a pair of hits and one RBI apiece from Lauren Barry and Austin.
The Black Tornado will take on the Olathe Rockets Gold of Kansas City, Missouri, at 11 this afternoon as one of 24 teams remaining. The Medford squad can advance and play every two hours until 5 p.m. with each victory.
16U WESTERN NATIONALS: The 16U Black Tornado went 2-0 in bracket play Thursday at U.S. Cellular Community Park, winning 11-10 over the Woodland All-Stars on a walk-off hit by Grace Johnson and then 9-6 over the Rogue Waves as Mallory Meilicke drove in three runs and Kylie Baker had two RBIs.
Johnson, who went 5-for-5, and Ella Ivens each had three RBIs against Woodland.
SOUTHERN OREGON SPEEDWAY: At White City, Michael Grenert won the 20-lap Pro Dwarf Car preliminary main event Friday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. Friday marked the opening night of the WSDCA Dwarf Car Nationals, and over 60 cars filled the pits for the big event.
Kevin Bender scored a victory in the 20-lap Veteran Dwarf Car main and Josh Wiesz won the 20-lap Sportsman Dwarf Car main.
Jason Stoutenburgh claimed his first career 20-lap Hornets main.
Racing resumes tonight with all of the Dwarf Car divisions in action, along with the winged sprint cars and late model lites.
