Author of Fosbury book to speak

Bob Welch, author of “The Wizard of Foz: Dick Fosbury’s One-Man High-Jump Revolution,” will speak at 2 p.m. Monday at the Medford Public Library, 205 South Central Ave.

His subject, Fosbury, is a 1965 Medford High graduate who invented a backward-over-bar high-jump style that earned him a gold medal in the 1968 Olympics. Today, essentially all jumpers use the “Fosbury Flop” style.

Welch’s presentation will include photographs and a high-jump bar set at Fosbury’s winning height of 7’41/4”.
