Leopoldo Ibarra, 9, of Spartan Boxing Club won a decision over Julius Arevalos to claim the medal and a national title in the 50-pound division of the Silver Gloves National Tournament Saturday in Kansas, Missouri.

With the victory, Ibarra is now ranked No. 1 in the nation.

Also for the Spartan Boxing Club, Malaya Wohosky, 13, lost a split decision in the 90-pound finals to finish ranked No. 2 in the nation. Wohosky earned a technical knockout in the second round to advance to the championship bout.

Also qualifying for the tournament for the local boxing club were Adan Ruiz (13), who lost a decision to Quinci Page Jr. of Region 5, and Uriel Ibarra (13), who also lost a decision.
