LOCAL ROUNDUP: Mavs drop two in Corvallis

CORVALLIS — After winning a wild opening game at the Corvallis Wood Bat Tournament on Friday, the North Medford Mavericks couldn’t muster the same magic Saturday in dropping a pair of American Legion A baseball contests at Corvallis High.

North Medford surged to a 5-3 win in 10 innings over Crescent Valley late Friday night after Tyler Dunlevy singled and scored the eventual winning run on an RBI double by Mason Warren, who later added an insurance run when he scored on a passed ball.

On Saturday, the Mavericks (10-3) weren’t quite as fortunate as they lost 15-5 in five innings to Sheldon and 14-4 in six innings to host Corvallis and moved to 1-2 in the tourney.

Against Sheldon, Nolan Morris and AJ Balsiger managed the only hits for North Medford, with Morris’ hit driving in a run in the first inning. Warren also added an RBI groundout in the first.

Against Corvallis, Morris went 2-for-3 with one run two doubles, including a two-out RBI effort in the fourth inning. Warren added two hits and one run and Balsiger supplied an RBI triple in the sixth inning.
