Carter claims Firehouse Run title

JACKSONVILLE — Anne Carter was the big winner Saturday in the 18th running of the Britt Woods Firehouse Run while Bob Julian Jr. posted the fastest time of the day overall to highlight action in the 10-kilometer event.

Carter completed the course in an adjusted time of 58 minutes, 3 seconds in the unique handicapped event that favors the young and the senior, and the wiomen over the men in the Dipsea handicap system.

The 56-year-old Carter’s actual time in navigating the cross country course was 53:03.

Julian Jr., who was third in last year’s race, was second overall in 59:05, with the 51-year-old’s actual time of 43:05 serving as the landmark effort of the day.

Sierra Brown, who was second a year ago, finished third at age 24 in 59:24 (actual 45:24), 55-year-old Elena Meyer was fourth at 59:46 (actual 53:46) and 58-year-old Joe Griffin fifth at 61:25 (actual 50:25.)

Around 100 runners faced four challenging hills over the 6.2-mile course that weaves through the Britt Woods landscape in downtown Jacksonville.
