Geniza leads, Wilson Jr. in hunt at RV Stroke Play Championships
Kevin Geniza leads the pack after the opening day of the Rogue Valley Stroke Play Championships on Saturday at Centennial Golf Club.
Geniza of Emerald Valley Golf Club, a former two-time Class 5A state medalist, carded a 5-under-par 67 in the first of the two-round event in the men’s championship flight but is closely followed by Mark Wilson Jr., who scored a 68.
In the men’s open flight, Michael Forney is in charge after the first round with a 74 and Kristopher Kaufman is in second with a 75.
After the first round, John Mansfield shot a 67 to grab a five-shot lead over Brad Bills (72) in the senior men’s championship flight, while Charles McGarry has the lead in the senior open flight with a 79.
In the super senior division, Kevin Klabunde is comfortably out in front with a 68 but Jim Hoffman, Pat Daggitt and Wade Bird are still in the hunt with 74s. In the super senior open flight, David Allen scored a 75 to grab a two-shot lead over Jim Hatton (77).
Peyton Cannon came away with a 74 after the first day of the ladies championship flight. Cannon’s only challenger in Day 2 could be Carolyn Turner, who turned in a 79 as the third-place score is an 87 by Sandy Day.
