BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Rogues down Seals to go to 2-0

The Medford Rogues doubled their pleasure in the third inning of a college wood-bat baseball game against the San Francisco Seals Thursday, scoring four runs in the frame en route to an 8-2 victory at Harry & David Field.

Three of the four hits in the third were doubles, including a two-run rip by Drew Steelhammer, as the Rogues upped their record to 2-0 in this independent season. The two teams face off again at 6:35 p.m. Friday and Saturday before ending the series with a 12:35 p.m. contest on Sunday.

Seven of Medford’s 12 hits were doubles, including two by Jason Dumont, who was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Also in the third, Omar Ortiz and Grant Henry had RBI doubles.

Ortiz was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs, and Josh Berman was 2-for-4 with two runs for the Rogues.

San Francisco’s Marco Castillo was 2-for-5 and drove in the Seals’ runs with a two-run home run in the top of the third.

Starter Griffin Henry got the win on the mound, going on 3 1/3 innings, allowing four hits, two runs, both earned, and fanning two while walking three.

Kyle Lund pitched 3 2/3 innings. He gave up three hits, struck out one and walked two.

Jack Erickson finished with two hitless frames, striking out four and walking one.

MEDFORD MUSTANGS 5, RENO ELITE 0: Yreka, Calif., Steven Ledendecker pitched six innings of scoreless relief to lead Medford in a Friday morning game.

The Mustangs (17-6) got an RBI single from Eli Westrick in the second inning for the only run they would need.

Ledendecker allowed only four hits, struck out three and walked one. He came on after Tanner Douglas pitched the first, allowing a hit and walking one.

Quinton Rumrey and Rowan Amann each scored twice for Medford, and Bennett Thompson added an RBI.

HUMBOLDT EAGLES 4, MEDFORD MUSTANGS 3: The Humboldt Eagles scored two runs in the seventh inning, and a Medford rally in the bottom of the final frame came up short in a late game Thursday at U.S. Cellular Community Park.

In a contest reported earlier, Medford defeated Fairfield, 9-8, in the Mustangs’ first game Thursday.

The Mustangs (16-6) began the seventh with Quinton Rumrey getting hit by a pitch and Darin Marsh walking. Bennett Thompson’s infield single loaded the bases, and Jack Thompson’s groundout to third base scored Rumrey before a strikeout ended the game.

Marsh was 2-for-4 and Bennett Thompson was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

AJ Balsiger pitched five innings of five-hit, two-run ball for Medford, striking out two and walking three. Steven Ledendecker pitched the final two innings and absorbed the loss.

KLAMATH FALLS FALCONS 7, NORTH MEDFORD MAVERICKS 1: At Klamath Falls, the Falcons completed a doubleheader sweep, scoring four runs in the first inning to take control in Game 2 Thursday.

Klamath Falls won the opener, 17-7, in a game reported earlier.

Mason Warren was 2-for-3 with a run for North Medford, and Steve Seus went 2-for-3. Tyler Dunlevy drove in the Mavericks’ lone run.
