Warren hit lifts Mavericks over Pirates
Mason Warren’s run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the North Medford Mavericks a 7-6 American Legion baseball victory over the Phoenix Pirates Tuesday at U.S. Cellular Community Park.
Warren’s hit to center field scored Cody Borraggine, who had walked, and capped a three-run rally.
The win raised the Mavericks’ record to 10-7-1.
Trailing 6-4, North Medford’s Frankie Rutigliano tripled to open the seventh, and Austin McLean gave the Mavericks’ another runner when he was hit by a pitch. A ground out, strike out and walk loaded the bases with two outs.
Koda Passey walked to score Rutigliano, and Aiden Horsley singled in McLean, setting up Warren’s winning hit.
Warren was 3-for-4 and drove in three runs, Borraggine was 3-for-3 with two runs and Horsley was 3-for-4.
Horsley also had a strong outing on the mound, striking out five batters in 1 2/3 hitless innings. He walked one.
