Strong pitching lifts Rogues over Athletics

Medford scored three runs in the sixth inning and three Rogues pitchers limited Fresno to three hits in collegiate wood-bat baseball at Harry & David Field Sunday.

Starter Ryan Buckley hurled four innings of one-hit, shutout ball, striking out one and walking three to notch the win as the Rogues improved to 17-3. Sebasten Boivin and Jack Erickson also saw mound action.

Wyatt Young and Emiliano Alarcon were each 2-for-3 with an RBI for Medford, which had eight hits.

In the sixth, Matt Aguilar doubled and was knocked in by a Jackson Hall pinch-hit single. Vinnie Zavolta followed with an RBI double, and he later scored when Omar Ortiz reached on a throwing error.

Medford is host to the Springfield Timbers American Legion team at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday.

American Legion

MEDFORD MUSTANGS 4-6, HUMBOLDT EAGLES 0-9: Tanner Douglas pitched a four-hitter and Dylan Marsh homered as Medford scored all four runs in the third inning to win the opener of the American Legion doubleheader at U.S. Cellular Community Park Sunday.

In Game 2, Humboldt put together 12 hits to gain the split and drop the Mustangs to 29-14.

Douglas struck out two and walked three to keep the Eagles at bay while Medford was held to three hits.

Cody Borraggine began the Mustangs’ half of the third with a walk and made it around to score on a wild pitch, a ground out and another wild pitch.

With two outs, Steven Ledendecker walked, and Marsh followed with his home run to left field.

Jack Thompson then walked and eventually scored on Chase Costanti’s single.

In the nightcap, Eli Westrick was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, and Evan McLennan was 2-for-4 with a run.
