Ortiz ties record as Rogues roll to victory

Omar Ortiz tied a Medford Rogues record with five runs scored and Emiliano Alarcon had five hits in six at-bats to help the Rogues overwhelm the Bay Area Force, 16-4, in Game 3 of their four-game collegiate wood-bat baseball series Saturday night at Harry & David Field.

The final game of the series was set to begin at 12:35 p.m. Sunday.

Ortiz finished 3-for-4 with a triple and five runs scored to tie a record held among four Rogues players, including Jackson Hall from earlier this season for Medford (19-5).

Bay Area built a 2-0 lead in the first inning before the Rogues tied things up in the second. Medford trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the third inning before the Rogues erupted for six runs on four hits, two errors and one wild pitch.

Kyle Lund’s two-run triple in the fourth inning helped Medford extend its comfortable lead. Lund finished 2-for-4 with one run and three RBIs.

Alarcon was 5-for-6 with four runs and two RBIS, Jason Dumont 2-for-7 with one run and three RBIs, Drew Steelhammer 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI and Wyatt Young 3-for-6 with one RBI to help propel the Rogues.

On the mound for Medford, Zach Ragan came on in relief of Nate Vidlak in the fourth inning and supplied 41/3 innings of scoreless pitching, allowing only four hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Vidlak improved to 2-0.
