Rogues go a little extra in rout of CCL All-Stars

After stubbing their toe Thursday, the Medford Rogues bounced back in a big way Friday night and celebrated the 69th birthday of official scorer BG Gould with a bang at Harry & David Field.

The Rogues shattered a team record for extra-base hits that had already been tied twice this year with 14 extra-base hits in a 21-10 romp over the visiting Cascade Collegiate League All-Stars.

Medford (22-6) managed 10 doubles, two triples and two home runs in a 21-hit outburst during Game 2 of a season-ending four-game homestand. Action resumes at 6:35 p.m. Saturday tonight, with the season-ender beginning at 12:35 p.m. Sunday.

Ben Steck and Grant Henry highlighted the outburst for the Rogues, with Steck going 4-for-5 with four runs and six RBIs and Henry 4-for-5 with two runs and five RBIs. The first of two doubles by Steck was followed by a two-run home run from Henry in the second inning. Henry later added a pair of doubles, while Steck launched a two-run home run in the fifth inning and two-run double in the eighth.

Omar Ortiz also doubled twice, including a two-run effort in the eighth inning, to go 4-for-5 with five runs and three RBIs, while Drew Steelhammer finished with two doubles and one triple to go 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

South Medford High’s Bennett Thompson went 2-for-5 with a double and a triple, scoring one run to go with one RBI, to help the Rogues’ cause, while Wyatt Young also doubled to wrap up the extra-base hits.

Medford’s previous single-game record for extra-base hits was nine.

Honus Kindreich had the highlight pitching effort of the night for the Rogues, tossing two hitless and scoreless innings with two walks and six strikeouts.

For the CCL All-Stars, Aaron Barber went 2-for-4 with four runs and Brody Ponti was 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
