Rogues drop two to end season

The Medford Rogues dropped a couple of wild games on Sunday and Saturday at Harry & David Field to complete their independent collegiate wood-bat season.

On Sunday, the Cascade Collegiate League All-Stars held on for a 10-9 victory after Medford scored six runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. The loss gave the Rogues a 22-8 record for the summer.

On Saturday, Cascade outslugged the Rogues, 15-13.

In the season finale, Caleb Schorr and Jacob Melton hit home runs to highlight the big ninth.

Schorr’s was a pinch-hit, three-run shot with no outs that made it 10-6 after Ben Steck reached on a single and Drew Steelhammer was hit by a pitch.

Melton’s solo shot to right followed. He returned after missing 23 games with a shoulder injury.

Omar Ortiz and Emiliano Alarcon kept the rally going with singles before Jason Dumont scored them with a single to right, making it 10-9. With runners at second and first, Steelhammer struck out swinging to end the season.

Steck and Alarcon were each 2-for-3.

Cascade’s Aaron Barber was 3-for-4 with two runs and Michael Ball was 2-for-4.

In Saturday’s game, the red-hot Steck homered twice and went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs, and Grant Henry was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run.
