GRANTS PASS — A dead heat for the victory in one of the day’s biggest races punctuated Oregon Championship Day at Grants Pass Downs Monday.

The fifth race, the Rogue River Handicap, a 400-yard quarter horse sprint with a purse of $16,300, had co-winners in Df Storm Tales and Shez Sneakin Fast, who each hit the finish in 19.938 seconds.

Jockey Joree Scriver, who had two wins on the day, rode Shez Sneakin Fast, trained by Scott Raley and owned by Connie Chumbley. Df Storm Tales was ridden by Nakia Ramirez for trainer Kydra McKinney and owner Mertello Baird.

McKenzie King had the biggest day among jockeys, winning three races, including the Greek Native Stakes in the sixth. She rode Slew’s Legacy to victory in 1:00.92 in the 5-furlong thoroughbred race that carried a purse of $17,600. The horse is owned by Margaret Root and trained by Travis Wheeler.

In other key races, King was aboard Racing Ray to win the Cris Caldwell Memorial in the fourth, and Cerapio Figueroa won the Don Jackson Sprint in the seventh on The Metal Man.
