BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Mustangs fend off comeback by Chico
The Medford Mustangs needed every bit of its early eight-run lead Friday morning after holding off a late Chico Nuts comeback bid for a 9-7 win in the Coach K Memorial tournament at North Medford High School.
Against Chico, Medford took a 6-0 lead in the second inning behind RBI doubles by Aiden Horsley and Cody Borraggine, an RBI single by Tanner Douglas and Eli Westrick’s two-run single up the middle. Brandon Zanni also scored on an error in the inning.
The Mustangs (21-5) added two more runs on a Josh Baptiste RBI double and Borraggine’s groundout to second in the third to go up 8-0.
Borraggine, who went 2-for-5 and scored a run with three RBIs, drove in the Mustangs’ final run on his second double of the game in the fifth.

MEDFORD ROGUES 13, PORTLAND GHERKINS 5: Drew Steelhammer hit an eighth-inning grand slam on his 20th birthday to highlight a seven-run surge to power the Medford Rogues to a win at Harry & David Field.
Steelhammer finished 3-for-5 with a run scored an five RBIs. Jesse Brown hit a three-run home run in the eighth. Jason Dumont want 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Jake Gentry was 3-for-4 with four runs scored for the Rogues (14-3). Omar Ortiz also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a pair of RBIs.
