Mustangs close out Coach K Memorial with blowout win
The Medford Mustangs offense made sure to close out the Coach K Memorial in fine fashion, recording 15 hits in less than five complete innings to record an 11-1 win via mercy rule over Siskiyou Post 122 at North Medford High Sunday morning.
The Mustangs (24-5) took a 2-0 lead in the third on Darin Marsh’s solo home run to center and an RBI single by Aiden Horsley, then exploded for seven runs an inning later to put the game out of reach.
Six different Medford players had an extra-base hit, with Marsh going 3-for-3 with a double, a home run and three RBIs. Marsh also scored three runs.
The Mustangs also got a quality outing from starting pitcher Chase Costanti, who went 4 2/3 innings and allowed just one run on four hits with five strikeouts. Josh Baptiste came in to get the final out in the top of the fifth.
Jeremiah Robbins finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Eli Westrick and Gavin Schmidt both went 2-for-3.
Jace Miller drove in a pair of runs, while four other Mustangs — Westrick, Horsley, Cody Borraggine and Tanner Douglas — all had an RBI.
The Mustangs, who won four straight after dropping their tournament opener Thursday, will now turn their attention toward back-to-back Area 4 doubleheaders against the Grants Pass Nuggets today and Tuesday Today’s doubleheader begins at 5 p.m. in Grants Pass.
