Rogues split with CCL All-Stars
Medford used a seven-run first inning to break Friday’s late game wide open against the Cascade Collegiate League All-Stars and secure a 12-2, seven-inning victory at Harry & David Field.
Josh Williams and Jason Dumont each supplied two-run doubles during the opening outburst, where the Rogues picked up six of their 12 hits overall.
With the early support, Eric Rohrer cruised to his second win in three decisions during collegiate wood-bat summer play, allowing three hits in four scoreless innings with two strikeouts and one walk.
The CCL All-Stars struck back Saturday, however, using a four-run eighth inning to spur a 7-4 victory over the Rogues (26-7).
In the eighth, the visitors used a two-run single by Luke Rohleder, RBI double from Sam Canton and RBI single by Michael Ball to break the game open. Medford trailed 3-1 heading into the eighth.
Carson Lydon and Emiliano Alarcon each led the Rogues in Saturday’s affair by going 2-for-4 with one RBI apiece.
Jake Gentry drove in a run in the bottom of the eighth and homered with two outs in the ninth to narrow the gap but Medford was unable to get any closer.
The series tiebreaker begins at 6:35 p.m. tonight at Harry & David Field.
Beyond the two-run doubles in the first inning Friday by Williams and Dumont, the Rogues got RBI singles from Gentry and Noah Sudyka and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Jesse Brown.
Williams, Dumont and Gentry each finished with two hits, two runs and two RBIs for Medford, while Ruben Cedillo was 2-for-3 with two runs and Sudyka went 2-for-4 with one run and two RBIs.
The game was shortened by a 10-run mercy rule.
Rohleder led the CCL All-Stars Friday by going 2-for-2 with one run.

ROSEBURG DR. STEWART’S 5-7, MEDFORD MUSTANGS 0-1: At Roseburg, Medford managed only four hits in the opener as Roseburg starter Jace Stoffal struck out nine with no walks in 6 2/3 innings to earn the Area 4 win at Legion Field.
In Game 2, the Mustangs outhit Roseburg 9-5 but accounted for only one run on an RBI effort by Darin Marsh.
Cody Borraggine, Eli Westrick, Jeremiah Robbins and Jace Miller each had the lone hits for the Mustangs (38-11) in the opener.
Marsh went 2-for-2 with a sacrifice fly in Game 2, while Westrick also had two hits.
Jett Black had a two-run home run for Dr. Stewart’s in the nightcap.
The Mustangs will host Roseburg in another doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. today at U.S. Cellular Community Park to wrap up the regular season.
