Medford Rogues quell the Storm
Austin Smith belted a three-run home run and Sebasten Boivin began a string of five straight relief pitchers to throw scoreless frames as the Medford Rogues cruised to a 12-3 win over the South Bay Storm late Wednesday night.
Smith finished 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBIs, most courtesy of his first home run of the summer, to help Medford improve to 28-8 entering Thursday’s series finale.
The Rogues built a 5-1 cushion in the third inning after consecutive hits by Jesse Brown, Jason Dumont and Noah Sudyka loaded the bases. After a wild pitch brought one run home, Jake Gentry hit an RBI double before ensuing RBI efforts from Smith and Ruben Cedillo.
Zachary Schuler answered with a two-run home run in the third inning for South Bay, and the Storm saw another player advance to third with one out before Boivin was called upon to quell the threat. The former Crater High standout earned a strikeout and groundout to end the frame.
Boivin went on to pitch 1 2/3 hitless innings with two strikeouts to secure his first win of the summer.
Ryan Brown, Skyler Gaudern, Kaden Miller and Camden Stephens each followed with scoreless innings in relief to propel the Rogues.
Caelb Schorr was 3-for-5 with one RBI and Sudyka went 2-for-3 with two runs for Medford.
Stephen Hom was 3-for-4 and Schuler 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs for the Storm.
