Ninth-inning surge rescues Rogues

Down to its final out, Medford simply would not go away quietly Monday night and wound up with yet another thrilling finish as the Rogues rallied for an 11-10 victory over the Wild Wild West League All-Stars.

After reliever Andrew Eide registered the first two outs of the ninth inning for the All-Stars, Noah Sudyka, Jake Gentry and Omar Ortiz each drew consecutive walks to breathe new life into the Rogues (30-10).

Jesse Brown followed with a two-run single to close Medford’s deficit to 10-9, and Ortiz tied the contest on a wild pitch during Caleb Schorr’s at-bat, which also resulted in a walk.

Crosby Albee’s ensuing RBI single provided the game-winner to make the Rogues a walk-off winner at Harry & David Field.

The teams were set to play again at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday night before taking a day off Wednesday and resuming the season-ending series Thursday-Saturday at H&D.

Brown went 2-for-4 with one run and three RBIs and Ortiz 2-for-4 with one run and two RBIs to boost Medford, while Emiliano Alarcon had two RBIs and Sudyka scored three times.

Gentry was 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI and Albee 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI for the Rogues.

Alex Sol led the All-Stars by going 3-for-5 with one run and three RBIs, while John Oleson was 3-for-4 with two runs. Adam Stevens and Blake Tellinghousen each scored three times for a group cobbled together from players throughout the Wild Wild West League.

Medford reliever Jacob Memmott saw his streak of innings without allowing an earned run come to an end at 11 after the visitors tallied four runs on two hits, one walk, one hit batter and one wild pitch in the seventh.
