Gentry, Ortiz homer in Rogues win

Riding a five-run outburst in their first at-bats of Thursday night’s game, the Medford Rogues opened the final weekend of its 2021 season with an 8-5 win over the Portland Rosebuds at Harry & David Field.

Noah Sudyka drove in Medford’s first run with an RBI single, then Jake Gentry hit a two-run home run to quickly put the Rogues ahead 3-0. It was Gentry’s fourth home run of the summer.

Daniel Pruitt and Emiliano Alarcon drew back-to-back bases-loaded walks to cap the big first inning for Medford (32-10), which caps its campaign with home games at 6:35 p.m. Friday and Saturday against the Willamette Wild Bills.

Omar Ortiz hit his third home run of the season, a solo shot that made it 6-1, in the second inning.

Sudyka and Gentry each finished with two hits, two RBIs and a run scored, and Mike LaVigne went 2-for-4 for the Rogues.

For Portland, J-Hamont Woods was 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in the fifth inning.

Griffin Henry improved to 2-1, going five innings in his final start.
