Medford Rogues starting pitcher Josh Sandoval threw six shutout innings in his final start of the 2021 season, leading his team to a 5-2 win over the Willamette Wild Bills at Harry & David Field Friday night.

Sandoval, a left-hander from Chaffey College in Southern California, scattered four hits and didn’t walk a batter while striking out a season-high seven batters.

The Rogues (33-10) — who wrapped up their season Saturday night — provided early run support for their starting pitcher as well.

Jake Gentry gave Medford a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with an RBI double that brought home Noah Sudyka. Gentry, who moved to third on a Wild Bills throwing error, then came in to score on Omar Ortiz’s groundout to short.

An inning later, Austin Smith drove in Crosby Albee with an RBI single to make it 3-0.

Willamette cut Medford’s lead to 3-2 in the top of the eighth, but the Rogues respond in the bottom half of the inning when Ortiz drove in a pair of runs with a single to right field.

Ortiz was 1-for-3 with three RBIS, while Albee finished 2-4 with a run scored.

For Willamette, Michael Soper was 2-for-5 with a run scored. Travis Weise also had two hits and drove in a run.

Tyler Tilton, Sandoval’s Cheffey College teammate, pitched the final two innings to pick up his first save.
