Dutch Mama scores big win at GP Downs
GRANTS PASS — Dutch Mama collared Thechampisfloring in mid-stretch and drew clear for a 1 1/2-length victory in Tuesday’s $7,700 Deacon Construction Purse for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and up at Grants Pass Downs.
With James Wooten Jr. riding, Dutch Mama ran six furlongs in 1 minute, 11.44 seconds and returned $11.80, $5.40 and $3.20. Margie Cantrell is the winning trainer and co-owner with Chris Daley.
Thechampisfloring, ridden by Joree Scriver, set fractions of 22.49, 45.46 and 58.07 seconds before yielding to the winner in the lane. The runner-up paid $6.40 and $3.60.
Big Enough, the 6 to 5 betting favorite ridden by Mckenzie King, rallied inside for third and paid $2.40. Rounding out the order of finish were Barbello, Parkers Rose and Shez a Grinder. Sheza Machiavelli was scratched earlier in the day.
A 6-year-old Kentucky-bred mare by Congrats, Dutch Mama has two wins this year and an overall mark of 5-0-1 from 30 starts with earnings of $30,995. She has three wins at Grants Pass including a pair in 2019.
On-track attendance was 315 and total mutuel handle was $332,541.
NOTES: Leaving Angelz ($2.60) improved to 4-for-6 lifetime and 3-for-4 at Grants Pass Downs with a victory in Tuesday’s $8,000 allowance test for 2-year-old quarter horses. . .Fifth race winner Brett was disqualified and placed third for interference on the last turn. Sizzling Grace ($51.40) was promoted from second to first. . .Defending training champion Quin Howey has a win on all three cards to date, including Clubhouse Saint ($3.80) in Tuesday’s seventh race. . .It was another good night for female riders as Mckenzie King, Joree Scriver and apprentice McKenna Anderson all had wins on the eight-race card. . .Racing resumes Monday with first post 5:15 p.m.
