GRANTS PASS — Clubhouse Saint held off Always for Money and notched a 2 1/2-length victory in the $14,900 Drift Boat Stakes for 3-year-old fillies Monday evening at Grants Pass Downs.

Ridden by Mckenzie King, Clubhouse Saint ran six furlongs in 1 minute, 11.19 seconds and paid $6.40, $3.20 and $2.60. Quinn Howey is the trainer for owner Boardshorts Stables LLC.

In the Drift Boat, Clubhouse Saint blew past Mean Sharon on the backstretch and then outran Always for Money as the two bay fillies dominated the race.

“(Clubhouse Saint) didn’t break well tonight and was in the pocket,” Howey said post-race. “Mckenzie did a great job of getting her in the clear. This is a nice little filly, hopefully we’ve got some more wins coming with her.”

Always for Money, ridden by Alex Anaya, was easily second best and paid $4 and $2.40, while Finished My P H D, Leonel Camacho-Flores riding, finished third and paid $2.80.
