Rogues fall to Crabs in series finale
The Medford Rogues dug themselves in an early hole they couldn’t get out of Wednesday night, trailing by four runs after just 2 1/2 innings en route to an 11-5 loss to the Humboldt Crabs at Harry & David Field.
The Rogues (1-3) outhit the Crabs 10-7 in the game, but Humboldt (3-0) was able to build a 6-2 lead after a three-run top of the third.
Medford held a 2-1 lead after the first inning in which Trey Nelson tied the game on an RBI triple to left and then scored on Barron Zamora’s double to right.
The Crabs, however, retook the lead on a two-run error by the Rogues in the second. They then extended their lead thanks to Jordan Petrushka’s RBI double and a run-scoring single to center by Jackson Giacone.
Humboldt also took full advantage of Medford’s pitching staff walking 12 batters on the night.
Rogues starter Brayden Wells went three innings, allowing four hits and six runs, with all but one of those being unearned. He struck out four and walked three.
Medford’s Reece MacRae went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, while Nelson was also 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Petrushka finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Javier Felix and Mario DeMera drove in two runs apiece.
The Rogues open a four-game series against the Sacramento Saints at 6:35 p.m. Thursday night at Harry & David.
