Massie leads Rogues to win over Saints

Backed by plenty of offense, Evan Massie had the most effective pitching performance so far this season for the Medford Rogues on Friday.

Massie struck out six over five innings — the longest stint of the season for any Rogues starting pitcher — and allowed one earned run on three hits and a walk to help the Rogues get back to .500 on the early season with a 7-1 victory over the Sacramento Saints at Harry & David Field.

Logan Drummond, who finished 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs, put the Rogues (3-3) in front in the bottom of the first inning with a single to left that scored Trey Nelson. Jude Hall later drove home Grant Henry with a single that put the Rogues up 2-0.

After the Rogues loaded the bases in the bottom of the third, Blake Young took advantage with an RBI single that plated Reece MacRae. Drummond, who had reached on an error, scored on a wild pitch to push Medford’s lead to 4-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Rogues extended their lead to 6-0 with run-scoring singles by Henry and Drummond.

Hall finished 2-for-4 with a triple, scored once and drove in a run for the Rogues.
