Rogues fall to NW Star Academy in series finale
The Medford Rogues were unable to finish their series with Northwest Star Academy on a high note Wednesday night, allowing five runs in the sixth inning en route to a 7-1 loss at Harry & David Field.
Through the first five innings, the Rogues (8-7-1) didn’t allowed a hit, with a trio of arms — Chris Weulfing, Ben Pajak and Grayson Grinsell, the latter two being position players — combining for five strikeouts and three walks in five shutout innings.
But then Northwest’s bats came alive against the Medford bullpen. Alex Sole broke the scoreless deadlock with a two-run double, then Brady Majewski hit an RBI single before Josh Schliechardt capped the outburst with a two-run triple to make it 5-0.
The Rogues, who were limited to just four hits Wednesday night, scored their only run in the bottom of the eighth when Reece MacRae drew a bases-loaded walk.
The two teams combined to use 13 pitchers, eight of those by the Rogues.
Sole was the only player for either team that had a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run.
The Rogues head north to play a Thursday night road game at the Springfield Drifters before returning home to open a series against the San Francisco Seagulls on Tuesday, June 28.
