Mustangs finish Reno tourney run on high note

RENO, Nev. — The Medford Mustangs were able to finish their time at the Reno Tournament on a high note, rolling to a 10-0 win in five innings over the Carson Blue Jays Monday morning, their second win via the mercy rule in as many days.

On Sunday, Medford claimed a 13-3 win over NBO Baseball.

Mustangs starting pitcher Julius Bolstad threw a two-hit shutout against the Blue Jays, while trio of left fielder Cameron Sewell, first baseman Tanner Douglas and shortstop Frankie Rutigliano combined to drive in eight runs to lead the Medford offense.

Bolstad faced the minimum through three innings and surrendered just one walk and struck out two.

The Mustangs (17-5) broke open the game with a seven-run second inning. Rutigliano put Medford in front with a two-run double before Kaleb Long’s single into right made it 3-0. After a pair of Blue Jays errors pushed the Mustangs’ lead to 6-0, Douglas drove in the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to right field.

Douglas and Long finished 2-for-3 and scored a run, while Douglas and Rutigliano each recorded three RBIs. Sewell went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored.

All nine of Medford’s starters scored a run.

In Sunday’s win, Sewell was 2-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs and scored three runs, while Jace Miller finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and scored a run. Leadoff man Cody Borraggine also had a multi-hit game, going 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored, while Owen Thompson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run.

Douglas and Rutigliano also had an RBI apiece for Medford, which returns to the field Wednesday when it hosts a 12 p.m. doubleheader against the Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s at Lithia & Driveway Fields.

Medford starter Beau Aldrich pitched a five-inning complete game, allowing two earned runs and eight hits while striking out eight.
