Blatnick, Grinsell come up big for Rogues

ARCATA, Calif. — Medford managed only six hits in Wednesday’s series finale against the Humboldt Crabs but half of them came when it mattered most as the Rogues pulled ahead late to score a 3-2 triumph.

After Medford used a two-out, two-run home run by Barron Zamora to build a 2-0 lead in the first inning — Reece MacRae had been hit by a pitch one at-bat earlier — Humboldt managed to scrap single runs together in the second and sixth innings to tie the contest.

In the pivotal seventh inning, CJ Colyer laced a leadoff double and was immediately brought home with what would be the winning run on an RBI single by Carson Blatnick.

Adam Shew helped set the tone defensively with five strikeouts and two walks to start for the Rogues (18-16-1), scattering five hits over five innings.

To close the game out, Logan Drummond allowed one hit with one strikeout in one scoreless inning of relief and Grayson Grinsell was stellar in fanning six with one walk and no hits allowed over the final two innings.

The Crabs entered Wednesday’s series finale having won 15 of their last 16 games.

Medford returns to Harry & David Field at 6:35 p.m. Friday when it plays host to the Cascade Collegiate League All-Stars.
