Rogues pitchers clamp down in rout
Medford’s pitchers held the visiting Cascade Collegiate League All-Stars scoreless in eight of the nine innings and the Rogues used the hitting of Emiliano Alarcon, Reece MacRae and Barron Zamora to cruise to an 11-5 victory late Saturday at Harry & David Field.
The series was set to wrap up Sunday night at H&D, with Medford entering its final week of play that will culminate in home games Wednesday through Saturday.
Brayden Wells set the tone on the mound with five scoreless frames to start things off for the Rogues (20-16-1), scattering five hits with five strikeouts and no walks.
Wells was treated to an early cushion to work with as Medford scored once in the bottom of the first inning and tallied five more runs in the bottom of the third. Two runs scored on a hit by Zamora in the third, while Alarcon and Carson Blatnick also had RBI hits in the pivotal frame.
Alarcon finished 4-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs, while MacRae was 2-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs and Zamora 2-for-4 with one run and two RBIs.
The night, however, belonged to Medford’s pitching staff, which was lights out in all but one inning. CJ Colyer tossed a perfect sixth inning and Griffin Henry did likewise with two strikeouts in the seventh. After the CCL All-Stars scored all five of its runs in the eighth, Victor Quinn struck out three and walked two without allowing a hit in the ninth.
