Rogues complete sweep of CCL All-Stars
Rallying with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Medford Rogues were able to complete a series sweep of the Cascade Collegiate League All-Stars with a 4-3 triumph late Sunday night at Harry & David Field.
The win included another impressive bullpen showing by the Rogues (21-16-1), who saw five relief pitchers toss six scoreless innings and allow only three hits during that span.
After a three-run double by Balas Buckmaster gave the CCL All-Stars a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning, Medford was able to answer with a surge of its own in the fifth to gain control.
Grant Henry’s RBI single got things going for the Rogues in the fifth, and Michael LaVigne and Tyler Peterson drew bases-loaded walks to plate the tying runs. With one out, Reece MacRae’s fielder’s choice brought home Dane Woodcook with the go-ahead run.
Lalo Barraza opened Medford’s strong relief effort on the mound in the fourth inning, allowing one hit with two strikeouts in one inning of work. Logan Drummond followed with two scoreless innings, striking out four with one hit allowed.
Sebasten Boivin picked up the baton in the seventh and struck out two without allowing a hit, and David Grewe kept the scoreless string going by allowing only one walk. To close things out, Grayson Grinsell gave up one hit and struck out three to record the save.
In all, Medford’s five relievers fanned 11 and issued only one walk in six innings.
The Rogues return to H&D at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday against the Redding Colt 45s, and will cap the summer season with a three-game homestand against TKB Baseball that concludes Saturday.
Medford’s game on Thursday will also start at 7:05 p.m., with Friday and Saturday’s games beginning at 7:35 p.m. to offset potential heat concerns given triple-digit forecasts.
Gates will open at 5 p.m. Friday to accommodate a Home Run Derby planned by the Rogues at 5:30. Friday night also will feature a 10th-year anniversary jersey auction.
