Two more Jackson County residents die of COVID-19

Two more Jackson County residents have died of COVID-19, Jackson County Public Health reported Tuesday.

An 88-year-old woman who tested positive Nov. 9 for the disease died Dec. 3 at Providence Medford Medical Center. It’s not yet known if she had underlying medical conditions. An 89-year-old woman who on Nov. 16 tested positive died Dec. 9 at her home. She had underlying medical conditions. The fatalities raised the local COVID-19 death toll to 52.

Health officials also reported 86 new cases, while also removing five other cases that had previous reporting dates. The new cases and adjustment increased the county’s total number of cases to 4,978. Of that number, 771 patients are still considered infectious, according to public health data.

Another Josephine County resident also died from the illness, a 94-year-old man who tested positive Dec. 3 and died Dec. 14 at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center. He had underlying health conditions. That death raised Josephine County’s COVID-19 death toll to 12.
