COVID-19 cases drop here for eighth straight week

But schools still seeing outbreaks, Oregon Health Authority report says

Some places in the Rogue Valley did not see any COVID-19 outbreaks over the last week, but cases remain at many of the area’s schools, according to the Oregon Health Authority’s COVID-19 Weekly Report, released late Oct. 27, which shows decreases in daily cases and deaths.

Through the period of Oct. 18 to 24, there was a 4.1% decrease from the previous week — the eighth consecutive week of declining case counts.

Each week, the Mail Tribune looks at the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in schools, workplaces, child care facilities and senior living communities in Jackson and Josephine counties provided in the OHA report.

The following kindergarten-12th-grade schools in Jackson and Josephine counties have seen recent COVID-19 cases:

No active outbreaks were reported at workplaces in Jackson County. However, Josephine County is still seeing some: Masterbrand Cabinets (60 cases), Walmart Supercenter (47 cases), Timber Products Co. (31 cases), Fire Mountain Gems (19 cases), Ross Dress for Less (eight cases), The Home Depot (six cases),

Two senior living facilities saw outbreaks: The Weatherly Court Memory Care (11 cases, one death), Farmington Square - Medford (five cases, zero deaths), Prestige Senior Living Arbor Place (one case, one death). No facilities of these kinds in Josephine County saw outbreaks for the week.

Child care facility active outbreaks were few, with one in Jackson County — Head Start Merriman Center (two cases), and one in Josephine County — Illinois Valley Head Start (five cases).
