Five COVID deaths reported over the weekend in Southern Oregon
Jackson County reported two more COVID-19 deaths and Josephine County reported three more deaths between Friday and Sunday.
The deaths were among 53 COVID-19 deaths reported across the state, the Oregon Health Authority reported Monday.
The deaths pushed the death toll in Jackson County to 341, and in Josephine County to 217, according to OHA.
Details about the fatalities, such as the patients’ ages, were not available Monday.
Health officials recorded 79 new COVID-19 cases in Jackson County and 56 in Josephine County over the weekend. The new cases pushed Jackson County’s caseload to 24,182 and Josephine County’s to 9,904.
On Monday, 48 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in Oregon hospital region No. 5, composed of hospitals in Jackson and Josephine counties, according to OHA. The number was a slight increase from the 43 patients in the hospital Saturday, but still below any point from the summer surge after July 27.
