St. Patrick's Day sweep nets five arrests
Five people were arrested during a St. Patrick's Day sweep of 25 Medford bars and restaurants.
Medford police along with Oregon Liquor Control Commission and Jackson County Community Corrections officials toured the bars on the evening of March 17 between 6 p.m. and 2:30 a.m., checking for alcohol and occupancy violations.
Four people were arrested as probation violators at the Branding Iron at 1701 N. Riverside Ave.; the Trophy Club Bar & Grill at 812 Central Ave. and the Purple Parrot at 828 S. Central Ave. One person also was charged with possession of methamphetamine.
Another person was arrested on outstanding warrants at Mario's Sandwiches at 215 E. Jackson St.
"We were looking for bars that were over serving and allowing minors on the premises," Medford police Lt. Tim Doney said.
In addition, three bars were found to have exceeded their occupancy limits and were forced to ask customers to leave.
This was the third recent bar sweep. The previous two patrols of 38 bars in Medford, Ashland, Phoenix and Talent resulted in 13 arrests and several citations for liquor law violations, officials said.
