Second teen charged in arson fire
Medford police Monday arrested a second teenager on a first-degree arson charge in connection with a fire that destroyed a vacant Medford house March 7.
Johnathan Ernest Reed, 18, was already an inmate at the Jackson County Jail when he was interviewed Monday and arrested on the arson charge for the fire at 1059 Crews Road near the Rogue Valley Mall.
Reed is accused of joining 17-year-old Story Lee Wood in igniting the fire at the vacant house, which was popular among homeless squatters.
First-degree arson carries a mandatory minimum sentence, upon conviction, of 71/2; years in prison under Oregon's minimum-sentencing guidelines.
