Police arrest man in stabbing incident
Roughly seven hours after a stabbing was reported at a Medford apartment complex Wednesday, Medford police arrested a man in Eagle Point on a second-degree assault charge linked to the early-morning attack.
Medford detectives arrested Alandress Noel Hurt, 31, no address listed, on the assault charge. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail, where he remained Wednesday night on $1 million bail.
Police were called to Wood Creek Apartments at 800 Ellendale Ave. for a reported stabbing in the complex's parking lot at about 3:50 a.m. Wednesday.
The victim, a 21-year-old man, told police that he had been in an altercation inside a vehicle with a man he had met the day before. As he got out of the vehicle, his new acquaintance stabbed him in the back once, leaving the knife in his back, police said in a news release. The suspect left in a brown two-toned Ford Taurus or Tempo.
Police said the victim went into his apartment and a relative removed the knife and called for help. A Mercy Flights ambulance took the victim, who had a punctured lung, to Rogue Valley Medical Center, police said. Hospital officials said his condition had stabilized and he was recovering Wednesday afternoon.
Detectives identified Hurt as the stabbing suspect and found him at a home in the first block of Platt Street in Eagle Point at about 11 a.m. He was taken into custody without incident, interviewed about the stabbing, and lodged in jail, police said.
