Suspicious fire gets closer look
Investigators are looking into a suspicious fire that damaged a vacant house on Butler Creek Road outside Ashland late Sunday.
Neighbors reported a fire in the 500 block of Butler Creek Road just before 11 p.m. Sunday and crews from Jackson County Fire District No. 5 responded, district officials said.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control quickly, limiting damage. Investigators from the district spent most of the day Monday at the house trying to determine the cause of the fire. A vehicle was seen leaving the area shortly before the fire was reported.
No determination had been made by Monday evening, but the investigation will remain open.
