Fire damages business

A former Internet gaming business in east Medford was heavily damaged by fire Friday night.

The single-story residence that once housed Cyber Storm at 501 Spencer Street just off East 12th Street was empty when fire broke out, entering the attic, said Brian Fish, a battalion chief with the Medford Fire Department.

"The front section of the house was heavily involved in flame when we arrived on scene at 5:25 p.m.," Fish said.

Fire crews managed to douse the flames within 5 minutes, but were forced to tear out much of the ceiling to get to hotspots in the attic, Fish said.

The building was under restoration, with crews working inside earlier in the day. Fish said most of the workers were contacted Friday to provide insight as to what may have caused the fire.

Witnesses in the area were still being interviewed late Friday, Fish said.

"It remains under investigation," he said. "We have an inspector there trying to determine the cause."

After the investigation, the house was to be boarded up for the night. Fish said inspectors plan on returning today during daylight hours.
