Boy rescued on Mount Ashland after call to California patrol
Search and rescue teams found a 15-year-old Medford youth who was lost while skiing on Mount Ashland on Saturday evening.
Dallas Boylen was cold and wet but otherwise unhurt during the five hours he was lost in deep snow.
Boylen called the California Highway Patrol at about 4:30 p.m.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Search and Rescue units responded to the south side of Mount Ashland. The Mount Ashland Ski Patrol discovered tracks in the snow and began following them.
Boylen made another 9-1-1 call at 5 p.m. to Jackson County dispatch, which used the caller identification to locate his position. A text message was sent to the youth telling him to stay put.
The ski patrol was the first on the scene, then the search and rescue unit arrived to help transport the skier to safety.
