Man struck by driver dies
A 25-year-old Medford man struck by an allegedly intoxicated driver late Friday died early Sunday morning at Rogue Valley Medical Center, according to Medford police officials.
Geoffrey Fennell suffered head wounds after he hit the windshield of a car driven by Eva Irene Fallon, 51, who was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and a parole violation for manufacturing methamphetamine. She is being held without bail at Jackson County Jail.
Fallon was arrested in April 2007 on charges of three counts of possession of methamphetamine. She was also arrested in September 2006 for possession and manufacturing of methamphetamine.
Witnesses at the scene said Fennell was in the crosswalk at Riverside Avenue and Jackson Street at about 11 p.m. when the car struck him and his girlfriend. The witnesses attempted to apply pressure to Fennell's head wounds. They said Fennell and his girlfriend were walking home from Mr. Smith's in downtown Medford around 11 p.m. Friday.
Medford Police Sgt. Kim Budreau said the girlfriend, who was treated and released from the hospital with minor injuries, requested her name not be disclosed.
