Man falls 20 feet from bridge, dies
GOLD HILL — Police do not suspect foul play in the death of a 56-year-old man whose body was found under the bridge along the Rogue River near Beach Park.
Charles Allen Young of Gold Hill died from injuries after falling 20 feet off the north end of the bridge.
A passer-by out on a morning walk reported seeing the body just before 10 a.m., Jackson County sheriff's Detective Sgt. Colin Fagan said.
It appears Young was crossing the bridge sometime late Friday or early Saturday and may have tried to take a shortcut by jumping off the north end of the bridge. Apparently, he misjudged the distance and crashed down on the rocks about 20 feet below, Fagan said.
"We do not suspect foul play in this death," Fagan added. "An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to determine the exact cause and time of death."
Young suffered serious leg and head wounds from the fall, Fagan said.
