Searchers find boy, 12, who'd been lost on Mount Ashland
The search ended late Wednesday for a 12-year-old boy who disappeared on Mount Ashland, police said.
John Rath failed to check in to the Mount Ashland Lodge at 6 p.m. after snowboarding earlier that afternoon, according to Jackson County Sheriff Mike Winters.
Searchers found John at about 9:30 p.m. seeking warmth in some bushes.
"His feet were really cold and we're going to have him checked out by medical officials," Winters said.
The Jackson County Search and Rescue team was called to the mountain with Sno-Cats and snowmobiles, Winters said.
Search crews found a set of footprints around 8 p.m. and hoped they would lead to the boy.
Officials said the boy had attended an after-school ski program when he left the group and became lost on the mountain. He had been snowboarding since 4 p.m.
